After all, your own safety comes first! For a safe spare wheel change, we have drawn up the step-by-step plan below. Depending on the make and/or model of your vehicle, small details may vary.
Watch our instruction video and observe the safety instructions below before you start changing the spare wheel.

Safely positioning the vehicle
To correctly mount the spare wheel, you need to find the safest possible spot along the road or hard shoulder (breakdown lane). Then turn on the hazard lights and it is compulsory to wear the reflective jacket. Place the hazard triangle about 50 metres behind the vehicle in a safe place so as not to obstruct other traffic.
Manual transmission
For a vehicle with a manual transmission, engage first gear to block the wheels, apply the parking brake unless it is in automatic mode, and turn off the ignition.
Automatic transmission
For a vehicle with an automatic transmission, select position “P” to block the wheels, apply the parking brake unless it is in automatic mode, and turn off the ignition. Check if the parking brake lights on the instrument panel remain illuminated.
Wheel replacement
Once done, you can start replacing the leaking wheel. Put the vehicle on the handbrake and loosen the wheel nuts one turn with the special spanner provided in the spare wheel kit. Then place the jack under the vehicle according to the car manufacturer’s instructions, making sure that the leaking wheel is just off the ground.
Fully loosen the wheel bolts/nuts securing the wheel and remove the defective wheel. Now replace the wheel with the spare wheel and hand-tighten the wheel bolts/nuts.
Lower the vehicle to the ground and retighten the wheel bolts with a healthy but firm turn until you cannot turn any further.
